The think home philosophy of the present administration has continued to yield positive results as Chief Hamilton Ezeonu of Ifite-Egbeaduji Village Nnobi, Idemili South Council Area has heeded the call by distributing safety helmets and reflective jackets to motorcycle riders in Nnobi.

 

The gesture which aims at ensuring safety of lives of the riders also geared towards sanitizing the community of miscreants and others who use motorcycles to engage in different manners of criminal activities in the community.

The event attracted the Traditional Ruler of Nnobi, Igwe Nick Obi, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Council Area, Mrs Amaka Obi, Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Security, Mr Johnchris Chigbo.

 

Speaking to newsmen on his intention for the donation, the benefactor, Chief Ezeonu said that death from road crashes could be avoided if the motorcycle riders are always on their safety helmets.

Chief Ezeonu said that since government cannot do it alone, privileged individuals should contribute to develop and attract progress to their communities, urging the motorcycle riders to always ensure they prioritize their safety and that of their passengers when they are on the roads.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili South Council Area, Mrs Obi said the benefactor, Chief Ezeonu has been committed to the development of the community, including the construction of two-point-two kilometers of roads in Nnobi, renovation of their General Hospital and other developmental projects, noting that the reflective jackets will help identify genuine Okada riders in the community thereby help to curb insecurity and other social vices and charged the leadership of the Motorcycle riders in Nnobi to enforce the constant wearing of the helmets and jackets by their members.

On her part, the wife of the benefactor, Dr Mrs Thelma Ezeonu lamented the effects of accidents on families and the society at large and acknowledged that some of the motorcycle riders would ordinarily wish to acquire the helmets but could not afford it which is the major reason her husband took it upon himself to procure the helmets and donate to them.

Highlighting the importance of safe riding, the State Coordinator of FRSC Special Marshals, Mr Patrick Esumai, said the items provided to them are trademarks that will identify each and every one of them and as well play important roles in chasing away miscreants who use motorcycles to operate and pleaded with them to shun over speeding and over loading, drunk driving and the use of earpiece while riding.

 

Lending his voice, the Chairman, Ifite-Egbeaduji village Nnobi, Comrade Obinna Izuegbunam said their brother, Chief Ezeonu has contributed immensely to the development of their community in several ways and prayed God to give more strength to their benefactor.

Expressing his joy on behalf of the Nnobi Motorcycle Riders, Mr James Agbo appreciated Chief Ezeonu for his benevolence and support to them.
