Hallelujah choruses rented the air in all the churches visited yesterday by the ABS news crew as Christians rejoice over Christ’s victorious resurrection from the dead known as “Easter ”.

 

Easter celebration in Christendom is the basis and hope of Christianity because of Christ’s trials, passion, death and resurrection which brought about forgiveness of sins, love and hope for eternity.

In most of the churches visited, liturgical colours had turned from violet, red and black that they were on Good Friday to White, signifying victory, joy and freedom over death.

 

Also, the crucifix that were covered, had been uncovered while the priests were all vested in white.

 

In a sermon at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka, the Archbishop, Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim said that Easter is the most important Christian festival because without Christ’s death and resurrection, there will be no Christianity, as it seals up the faith that brings them to salvation and hope of eternity.

Most Reverend Ibezim who is also the Bishop, Diocese of Awka, maintained that in the spirit of Easter, everyone should show love to one another, forgive their fellow humans in order to have a better society.

 

At Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, Nodu-Okpuno, the Vicar, Reverend Father Fidelis Odunukwe maintained that Christ’s defeat of death shows that there is life after death, calling on Christians to repent and believe in the kingdom of God.

 

He noted that Christ died for the sake of mankind and asked Christians to love God and one another, surrender all for the sake of God’s kingdom so as to join Him and the saints on the last day.

The Archdeacon, Enugwu-Ukwu Archdeaconry and Vicar of Immanuel Church, Enugwu-Ukwu, Venerable Chris Ogbodo said that the celebration highlighted the faith of Christians in Jesus Christ and the work of salvation and maintained that the current suffering in the country will not last forever.

 

Also, at All Souls Parish Enugwu-Ukwu, the vicar, Reverend Sunny Okechukwu-David said that the season calls for humility, Christ-like life, dedication and persistence and made it clear that through someone’s character, one will prophesy Christ and bring souls back to God.
