The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, has described Alumni Associations as veritable instruments for the growth and development of various institutions.
Speaking when the National Executive Officers of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Alumni Association paid him a courtesy call in his office, Right Honourable Udeze thanked them for acknowledging the good work Governor Chukwuma Soludo is doing in the state in terms of development and wellbeing of the citizenry, and for their promise to give the Governor the necessary support.
The Speaker, who is an Alumnus of the university, encouraged his colleagues to make a mark in the university by watching over the institution and liaising with the school management for optimal development.
He assured them that the House of Assembly will look into the law establishing the university, which he said was enacted twenty-four years ago, with a view to updating the necessary contents, while calling on the stakeholders of the university to contribute their quota towards the infrastructural development and other needs of the institution.
Right Honourable Udeze enjoined the staff and students of the university to appreciate Governor Soludo’s efforts in repositioning the institution by ensuring that peace reigns in and around the university at all times.
Earlier, the National President of the association, Dr. Dubem Oguegbu, said the visit was to inform the Speaker about their resolve to partner the state government in its development efforts, and to give maximum support to Governor Soludo’s development agenda in the state as a union.
He appealed to the relevant authorities to include members of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Alumni Association in the Governing Council of the institution, and provide a functional Secretariat for the association to enable them contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of the university.
In their separate speeches, the National Vice President of the association in the South-East, Engineer Cheta Nwegwu, and the National Treasurer, Mr. Iyke Uyanne, revealed that the Alumni Association is planning a home coming where members will showcase the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Anambra State to the world, and commended the Speaker for the mature manner he has continued to pilot the affairs of the state legislature.
