The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has urged teachers to engage in constant mentorship and inspiration of the young people under their care to enable them achieve their potential.
Archbishop Okeke who spoke on the theme “Learn to inspire others” during a High Mass held for the centenary Celebration of All Hallows Seminary Onitsha which drew Old Boys of the seminary, stated that centenary is a period of renewal, fresh beginning and spiritual empowerment and charged the gathering to always aspire to teach others as early missionaries did for a better tomorrow.
Archbishop Okeke who is also the proprietor of the Seminary narrated the history of the Seminary and disclosed that the school has witnessed challenges especially during the civil war, revealing that after the war Bishop Otteh of the blessed memory and others assisted greatly in rebuilding the school and appreciated Bishop Shanahan who started the school in 1924, and others who played significant roles in the development of the Seminary.
The Catholic Prelate also extolled Barrister Anyaegbunam family for donating the land where the Seminary is built and commended the Rector of the school, Very Reverend Father Paschal Okonkwo for the ongoing transformation of the Seminary, and revealed that students of the Seminary won laurels in Malaysia in debate competition.
Appreciating Archbishop Okeke, the Rector of the Seminary, Very Reverend father Paschal Okonkwo who eulogized the Archbishop for his usual magnanimity to the Seminary, testified that his spiritual and physical support is taking the Seminary to an enviable height. and thanked the old boys and parents for their support to the school.
In their separate interviews with ABS, the former National president of Old Boys Association of the seminary, Prof Fidelis Okafor and the President, 1993 and 2009 Sets, Reverend Father Evaristus Mbanusi congratulated the Seminary at one hundred and advised the current students to remain focused, aspire to become good ambassadors of the Seminary.
