Following the recent news in print and broadcast, as well as social media that the Traditional ruler of Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, and the President General of the community, Canon Ifeanyichukwu Ezeike are mining sand in Amako village, a group known as Concerned Citizens of Nanka has described the allegation as baseless and unfounded.
The group made this known while taking ABS newscrew round the area to see things b themselves.
Speaking during the exercise, a former Chairman of Amako village Nanka, Chief Emmanuel Chinedu-Nwofor said that the news holds no water as the Igwe and the President General are not mining sand anywhere in the village, saying that no tipper or truck has ever plied the road that led to the so-called beach in the last five to ten years.
Chief Chinedu-Nwofor wondered why a group led by one Obinna Iloh is out to tarnish the image of their Traditional ruler and that of President General for no cause, and revealed that in 2021, the said Obinna Iloh and his group pulled out of Nanka community and formed a parallel government in search of an autonomous community, a development he said is part of the crisis in Amako village, Nanka.
The former Chairman equally told the ABS that they have also written to the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Tonny-Collins Nwabunwanne, in which an agreement was reached for the constitution of a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the village, appealing to the Commissioner to inaugurate the Committee for Amako village, Nanka.
The Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Strategy, Execution and Evaluation, Honourable Ejike Nwofor, who is an indigene of Amako village Nanka, advised those he regarded as mischief makers to desist from fomenting trouble in Nanka, adding that Igwe Ezeilo and Canon Ezeike have never minned sand in Amako, village, and that nobody or group of persons has done such.
For Mr. Chukwujekwu Nwankwo, who is also from Amako village Nanka, Igwe Ezeilo is loved by every Onye Nanka and those tarnishing his image and that of their President General should stop forthwith, as it is an ill wind that blows no one any good, dismissing the allegation of sand mining in their village.
ABS also observed that the area in question serves as the boundary between Nanka and Oko community, also in Orumba North Local Government Area.
