Anambra State Government has inaugurated a special task force to drive the implementation of the food security and nutrition analysis technically known “Cadre Harmonise” in the state.
The inauguration, which took place in Awka, followed the decision of the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, to expand the analysis to the rest of the country after a successful implementation in twenty-six states.
The “Cadre Harmonise” is an early warning tool developed upon request of Food and Nutrition Insecurity stakeholders, governments, international, local, non-governmental organisations and civil society groups and member partners in the Food Crisis Prevention Network used for prevention and management of food and nutrition insecurity.
At the inauguration of the task force, the Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has a mantra of “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it”, and as such, the Cadre Harmonise programme has identified measurable indices as regards food and nutrition security in the state.
According to the Agriculture Commissioner, the outcome of the Cadre Harmonise analysis will provide early warning alert for national and state governments, as well as development partners on the prevailing situation of food security and nutrition with locations, and to galvanize support towards targeted actions.
Addressing the team, the state Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Arthur Mbuba, expressed happiness with the inauguration of the state task force, and applauded stakeholders and the government for the critical role played in maintaining the high standards the state is known for.
In his remark, the Team leader, Mr. Anthony Amu, who is also the Deputy Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, under National Programme for Food Security of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, revealed that Cadre Harmonise started in Nigeria in 2015, and is geared towards having the true picture of food and nutrition situations in Nigeria.
He expressed optimism that Anambra State will continue to be a pace setter it is known for.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs Ifeyinwa Uzoka, said the task force team is made up of highly skilled professionals who were selected at a time government at all levels are leaving no stone unturned in reinvigorating the nation’s economy.
Speaking on behalf of members of the team, Mr. Dubem Obukwelu assured that they will put in their best towards realizing set goals.
