The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, has charged women to be part of nation building by giving the needed support to schools in their various communities.

 

She gave the charge while presenting a paper on “Nation building” to Women President- Generals at Dora Akunyili Development Centre, Awka.

 

Professor Ikediugwu, who described nation building as the process of creating and showing a nation’s identity; which involves building and strengthening socio-economic and political foundations of the nation, said it is also the capacity of a country to raise the standard of living of its residents.

 

She explained that everyone should be involved in nation building, especially by teaching the children values of honesty, orderliness and being responsible, while adults should make efforts to develop, upgrade and improve on values like policies, laws, leadership and followership.

 

The PPSSC boss stated benefits of nation building to include stability, security, economic growth, promotion of shared vision and improvement in education, health care and social services as seen in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s free education programme, even as she pleaded with the Women Presidents-General to help in reaching out to parents to provide basic facilities to school children like school uniforms, text and exercise books, as well as other writing materials to enable Anambra children excel in school.

 

She further pleaded with the Women leaders to always have their eyes on the schools in their communities by helping the Principals and teachers in their areas of need, especially in instilling discipline in the students and providing accommodation for the teachers where necessary.
