A Papal knight of Saint Gregorym the Great and peace advocate, Dr Dan Okekenta has called on the National Assembly to enact a law that will establish peace and reconciliation commission across the country to check incessant conflicts in various areas.

 

Speaking in an interview with Abuchi Nwozor, Dr Okekenta who is a peace ambassador of the United Nations, decried the high rate of crisis in the society which he described as a major setback to socioeconomic development of the country.

 

He described peace as a major index for achieving successes, and charged various countries, States and Regions across the World to seek ways of setting up peace and reconciliation commissions in their various areas for even development.

 

The Enugwu Agidi born Diplomat, who regretted the loss of lives and property as a result of conflict, called for the inclusion of conflict management in the curriculum of both secondary and primary schools across Nigeria to acquaint the pupils and students of the negative impact of conflict to the society.

 

Dr Okekenta equally tasked church leaders to seek ways of including messages of peace in their sermons and homilies as part of a move to domesticating and internalizing the importance of peace to their congregation.

 

He used the opportunity to congratulate Governor Chukwuma Soludo on the recent champion Newspapers Governor of the year 2023 award conferred on him on infrastructure and Rural development and urged Governors of the South East geopolitical zone to synergize towards bringing rapid transformation in the Zone.

 

Dr Okekenta charged the government to create a more friendly business environment that will continue to attract both Local and foreign investors into the country for enhanced business transactions to strengthen the economy.
