The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, Mr. Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered an immediate investigation into the lifeless body of a baby found yesterday in a sack at a refuse dump along Ifite Road, Awka.
Anambra state Police spokesperson, SP Tocchukwu Ikenga said that Preliminary investigations reveal the child should be a day old and was abandoned by an unidentified woman suspected to be the mother.
Meanwhile, the body has been recovered and the Police are currently working with some eyewitness information at the scene for possible arrest of the perpetrator.
The CP decried moral decay in Society and described the act as ungodly, barbaric, and inhuman.
He also urged Parents and Guardians to pay greater attention to children and wards and called on anyone with useful information that can aid the investigation to come forward to the Police Command headquarters in this regard or call the Command Control Room number on 07039194332 or the Police Public Relation Officer on 08039334002.
