Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, Nsugbe zone, has joined forces with other environmental agencies to mark this year’s World Environment Day.

 

The event was held at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, where ASWAMA emphasized the benefits of maintaining a healthy environment.

 

The event also underscored the essential role waste management and environmental sustainability play in enhancing public health, economic stability and overall quality of life.

During the celebration, one of the primary benefits discussed was the improvement in public health.

 

In her speech, the Manager of ASWAMA, Nsugbe zone, Mrs. Eucharia Attah, stated that maintaining a clean and healthy environment directly impacts the well-being of communities, and appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment towards ensuring that Anambra has clean, green and safe environment.

 

She maintained that effective waste management practices are crucial in preventing the spread of diseases and ensuring a healthier living, hence the need for public awareness on the need to maintain clean environment at all times.

Mrs. Attah acknowledged material and cash supports from relevant stakeholders in Nsugbe community for a clean environment and urged others to follow suit.

 

The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Eloka Igwemezie, who also emphasized on the benefits of cleanliness, added that cleanliness is not just about aesthetic appeal, but entails creating a safe and habitable environment, for everyone.

 

He noted that proper waste disposal and environmental care contribute to a more prosperous and sustainable society.

 

On her part, the Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Dr. Tina Anyadiegwu, represented by the Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Law Egbonuche-okeke, thanked the organizer of the event for the awareness on clean environment, and assured the College readiness in partnering with them for more cleaner society.

In a lecture, the Head of Environmental and Sanitation Department, Anambra East Local Government Headquarters, Mrs. Grace Okpukpara, called for a change in action among Nsugbe community towards a cleaner environment

 

She reiterated the gains of healthy environment and disclosed that enforcement and prosecution will soon commence against those causing hazards in the environment.

 

Capping the event, the ASWAMA, Nsugbe zone read out sanitation obligations, offenses and penalties of the 2015 Waste Management Authority Law 2015.
