The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has asked traders to stop storing food products with poisonous chemicals because of the damaging implications on human health.
The Governor’s wife stated this while addressing traders at Nkwo Nnewi Market, where she continued her ongoing Healthy Living Market Outreach.
Speaking on the health risks of storing foods with chemical substances, Mrs. Soludo pointed out that while people who practice such methods may not be fully aware of the dangers, diseases caused by the act could be life-threatening.
She noted that so many slow-killing sicknesses could be traced to unhealthy consumption lifestyle, some of which come from foods grown or stored with harmful chemicals.
Mrs. Soludo also educated the market people on the rules of personal and environmental hygiene, and urged them to take common hygiene practices like hand-washing and cleaning of their surroundings seriously.
She also encouraged them to look out for one another, live as one community and combine efforts to tackle certain social vices like drug use and cultism among children and youths.
On his part, the member representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Augustine Ike, said that the impact of Mrs. Soludo’s healthy living crusade is being felt across the state, and has corrected so many habits that stood in the way of people and their good health.

Earlier, the Chairman of Agaedo Market, F Line, and the Secretary, Lady Nancy Ifebi, said that the market will adopt the healthy living message and make it an everyday practice for all the traders, as well as those who are visiting the market.
They commended the Governor’s wife for taking out time to bring her crusade to the Nkwo Nnewi, and for devoting her time to the welfare of humanity.
As with the tradition of such visits, Mrs. Soludo donated hand-washing buckets, refused bags, aprons, and disinfectants to help build hygiene in the market.
