The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, has condemned the abandonment of responsibilities by fathers in pursuit of materialism, describing it as the height of rascality.

 

Speaking on ABS Radio and Television programme “Tonimas Half Hour”, Most Reverend Ibezim lamented that many fathers are failing in their roles in their families, the church, and society, urging fathers to reevaluate their priorities.

 

Represented by Venerable Vincent Nkemdilim, Chaplain of Anglican Men’s Fellowship in Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Ibezim charged Christian fathers to always aspire to be a beacon of light and hope to others.

 

Speaking on the theme of the 2024 Father’s Sunday “Christian fathers are living testimony of God’s glory”, Most Reverend Ibezim maintained that the theme was chosen through the guidance of the Holy spirit, and charged Christian fathers to always live lives that will continue to glorify God, reminding them of the role they have in bringing the needed transformation in the society

 

The Head of the Anglican Church in Anambra State emphasized the importance of investing in their children’s education to secure a bright future, cautioning against negative remarks before children and encouraged fathers to lead their families in prayers.

 

Most Reverend Ibezim also called on the federal government to implement people-oriented programs and policies to alleviate Nigeria’s hardship.

 

Sir Timothy Nwabunwanne, another guest on the program, stressed the importance of fathers leading their families in prayers and cautioned against late nights and drunkenness.

 

He described International Father’s Day as an opportunity to reassess the role of fathers and father figures in society.
