Fathers in Anglican Communion, Awka Diocese, yesterday joined in celebrating International Father’s Day.

The day, which started with a special church service to honour the fathers for their roles in families and society at large, also helped to remind them of their primary responsibilities toward building a better society.

When ABS Crew monitored some of the churches in Awka and environ, Christian Fathers were seen helping in conducting church service by reading of lessons, prayers, serving as sides men, pastor’s and people’s wardens, among others.

They were also seen adorn with their uniforms, depicting the mood of day, while members of their families, showered special love and prayers, as well as present different gifts to them for recognizing their efforts in the families.

The Archdeacon, on the lake Archdeaconry and Vicar, Saint Stephen’s Church, Agulu, Venerable Silas Ike, whose sermon centers on the theme of the day’, “Christians fathers are living testimonies of God’s glory”, said fathers should remain perfect and righteous before God, be fair and peaceful, carry and advisory roles, as well remove self from drunkenness, idol worship, among others.

Venerable Ike maintained that within the society, things are shattered due to weakness of some fathers, asking them not to entice their wards to immortal acts, but rather love, nurture and be a beckon and pillar that hold their families.

At Christ Redemption Church, Ezi-Awka, the Vicar, Venerable Dr Rex Kanu said Christian fathers are to show others who God is, ensure that sanity and morals are upheld in the society, noting that many things have gone wrong in today’s Nigeria because of slumber from some father’s, reason he encouraged them to sit up and take responsibility.

Venerable Kanu further bemoaned the ugly behaviours of those who indulge in wives battering, idolatry and abuses of all sort, and advised them to have a re-think and know that God made them a father to cater and oversee the functions of family and love them as Christ loves his church.

Also at Saint Marks Church, Enugwu-Agidi, Venerable Dr Emendu reminded all father’s that in as much as they are the head of the family, they should carry everybody along, live righteous life so as to enjoy the fruits of God’s glory.

Venerable Emendu, who harped on the need for unity in various families, regretted that many are afraid of their own children because of neglect and bad, parenting, and encouraged all fathers to go back to the drawing board and see that things are in normal shape.

Lending his voice, a member of Christian Father’s Fellowship in Agulu, Sir Benson Orakwelu, said being a father is worth celebrating, encouraging every father to carry out their responsibilities with love and trust in God even when they are facing challenges.

Special thanksgiving, prayers and presentation of gifts to father’s climaxed the services.
