Eighty-five indigent students from different religious denominations have been offered scholarship to the tune of ten million four hundred and forty-five thousand naira by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, through donations from a non-governmental organization based in Austria, Help For All, HIFA-Austria.

Announcing the offer in Awka at an event organized by Justice, Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, Awka Catholic Diocese, Bishop Ezeokafor, represented by the Education Secretary, Awka Catholic Diocese, Reverend Father Maximus Okonkwo, urged HIFA-Austria not to relent in sustaining the gesture.

Bishop Ezeokafor who thanked the organization for sustaining the scholarship scheme for the years running, commended the beneficiaries for their promising academic records and urged them to do more in character and learning to gain more in coming years.

 

Earlier, the Executive Director of JDPC, Awka Diocese, Reverend Father Levi Ukor, explained that HIFA-Austria considered prevalent economic situation in Nigeria and added extra money to the seven million spent on the scholarship last year.

Chairman of JDPC Awka Diocese, Mr. Paulinus Adinuba, who also thanked HIFA-Austria for the gesture, urged the students to do well to make their benefactors proud, and caution parents of the beneficiaries not to use the money for any other purpose.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Kizito Ebele from Community Secondary School, Obeledu, Chiekezie Lawrence Uchechukwu, from St Michael Comprehensive Secondary School Nimo; Pamela Chikerem Onwuka from Father Tansi Memorial Secondary School Akpu, and Chioma Ibekwe from Girls Secondary School Awka, while thanking Bishop Ezeokafor and HIFA-Austria for helping them in achieving their academic dreams, promised to make good use of the offer.
