An environmental activist, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezike has called for concerted efforts to safeguard the environment.
In an interview with Abuchi Nwozor in Awka, Chief Ezike expressed regret over people’s indifferent attitudes towards the environment and vowed to continue using his non-governmental organization, Morizbo Green Awareness, to enlighten the public on environmental friendliness.
Chief Ezike attributed the environmental degradation and erosion in various areas across Anambra State to the negative attitude of the people towards the environment and condemned the practice of dumping refuse in unauthorized places, describing it as irresponsible and harmful to the environment and encouraged people to plant economic trees in their compounds to prevent erosion and improve their livelihoods.
Chief Ezike maintained that erosion is a significant problem in Anambra and reiterated that his organization will continue to lead public awareness campaigns to discourage harmful environmental practices.
He also advocated inclusion of environmental studies in primary and secondary schools curricula to educate pupils and students on the importance of environmental conservation from an early age.
