Residents of the commercial city of Onitsha were yesterday seen going about their businesses despite the Endbadgovernanceprotest.
ABS reporter who went round some of the markets in commercial city reports that the streets and major roads in Onitsha witnessed human and vehicular movements.
Some of the markets visited include Oseokwodu, Onitsha Main Market and Ochanja Market witnessed turn out of traders who displayed their goods and wares and engaged in their businesses.
Speaking to the ABS in their various offices, the chairman Oseokwodu market chief Ikechukwu Umeanozie, chairman Onitsha Main Market chief Innocent Ezeoha and that of Ochanja Market Mr. Bonaventure Muo claimed that they previously sensitized the traders to open their shops as they are not part of the protest noting that the protest will only destroy their properties and wealth.
Some of the traders at the markets who spoke to the ABS which include Chief Chijoke Ezeobi, Mr. Christopher Isiagu and Brother Thomas Onyia stated that they were instructed by the state government led by Professor Soludo to open their markets which they obeyed but regretted low patronage of buyers due to the fact that most of their customers are coming from different parts of the country to purchase goods.
They expressed optimism that it will not continue this way calling on other traders who did not come out to ensure they come out today as there is nothing like protest in the market.
Others such as Mrs. Ugochukwu Okeke and Chief Ogonna Onukeluobi lamented the high prices of food items in the market , calling on Federal government to intervene by helping to reduce the cost of fuel and other goods for the poor masses, as according to them, poor masses are dying of hunger.
