Anambra State Council of the Boys’ Brigade, Nigeria has inaugurated Venerable Jason Onyekagbusi as its new President.

 

The ceremony, which took place at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka, also saw the inauguration of the executive and the induction of new patrons.

The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, members of the clergy, members of the Boy’s Brigade, Nigeria among others.

 

Venerable Onyekagbusi and the newly appointed state executives took oaths of office, committing themselves to the values and mission of the Boys’ Brigade, which focuses on youth development, discipline, and community service.

In his sermon during the event, the Clerical Synod Secretary of Awka Diocese, Venerable Clement Mgbemena traced the origin of the Boys’ Brigade to when it was founded in the year 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith in Glasgow, Scotland, saying that its core mission is to instill discipline, moral values, and leadership skills in young boys through a structured programme of activities and community service.

 

Venerable Mgbemena said Boys Brigade was established to build the character of young men and to mould them into responsible citizens and future leaders, emphasizing that the association has made significant contributions to the society, particularly in Nigeria where it has played a crucial role in youth development.

He praised the organization’s efforts in promoting education, spiritual growth, and civic responsibility among its members.

 

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Venerable Onyekagbusi expressed gratitude for the trust placed on him and members of the new executive to pilot the affairs of the council.

While acknowledging the work of his predecessors, Venerable Onyekagbusi pledged to consolidate on their achievements while sharing his vision to enhance the Brigade’s programmes and to expand its outreach to have a greater impact across Anambra State  .

 

In their remarks, some of the new patrons, Professor Uzochukwu Nwanonyuo and Chief Uzoigwe Ejimofor said it is a privilege to be part of an organization that has positively impacted so many lives, noting that as patrons, it is their responsibility to provide guidance and support to ensure the success of the Boy’s Brigade programmes while advising youths to shun cultism and criminality and other social vices.

They praised the Boy’s Brigade for its longstanding commitment to youth development and community service, noting that with Venerable Onyekagbusi at the helm, they are confident that the council will attain new heights while calling on all members and stakeholders to actively participate in the activities of the council and to remain committed to its values.

 

The event featured musical performances, parade displays, and goodwill messages from various stakeholders.
