Anambra State Contingent at the ongoing eighth National Youth Games, NYG, has won her first gold medal and raked in three more medals on day three of the games.

 

The Gold medal came through eleven-year-old Chibuike Oranye in the Poomsae Performance display of the Male Taekwondo event. Taekwondo event also gave Anambra two more medals as Chibuike Oranye teamed up with Favour Nwakaeze to settle for a Silver medal in Team Poomsae Performance, losing narrowly in points in a split controversial decision by the judges against their Plateau State counterparts who eventually won the Gold.

 

Favour Nwakaeze would put an icing on the cake as she claimed the bronze medal in the individual Poomsae Performance display in Female Taekwondo.

 

Elsewhere, Team Anambra Male Cricket side won a Silver medal in the One Day International, ODI, category in Cricket and will look to go one better when they kick off their quest for glory in the upcoming T20 event.

 

In other events, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo booked a place in the finals of the one hundred metres Female finals after finishing tops in a time of twelve point two four seconds in the Semi Finals Heat one of the hundred metres for the Girls.

 

In Volleyball, Anambra State Female side defeated Team Delta twenty-five-twenty-one and twenty-five-nine in the preliminary stages while the Male team saw off Team Kaduna by two sets to nil, twenty-seven-twenty-five and twenty-six-twenty-four.
