The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have threatened to go on strike indefinitely over outstanding salaries.
SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Prince Peters Adeyemi issued a joint statement yesterday, saying that the unions handed the federal government a three-week deadline to pay their unpaid salaries.
According to them, the Federal Government’s ten-day grace period to pay four months’ arrears salary to university workers expires on July twenty-six, 2024.
They threatened to close institutions and inter-university institutes if payments were not made within the new grace period and accused the federal government of failing to act under the initial six-week deadline it imposed in July of this year.
