The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has described the distribution of the cutting-edge Science Laboratory Equipment to public secondary Schools in the state as a historic event that will enhance the practical teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, Education.

Professor Chuma-Udeh represented by Mrs Chinyelu Nwachukwu, stated this at Capital City Secondary School, Awka where representatives of the benefitting Schools were in attendance to receive the equipment.

The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, explained that STEM Education aims to prepare the next generation for the challenges of tomorrow, fostering creativity, critical thinking and Innovation.

The Resource Officer of the private firm that supplied the equipment, Dr. Uchenna Ezeogu, disclosed that the firm carried out a need assessment of two hundred and twenty four public secondary Schools in the state and found out that ninety four per cent of these schools have laboratory structures but deficient in equipment, and the remaining six percent has structures but no laboratory equipment to upgrade Anambra students to global standard.

A representative of Anambra State Association of Town Union, ASATU, Professor Charles Nwadigwe, advised that as the benefitting Schools are domiciled in Anambra communities, principals should liase with Presidents-General of the communities where their schools are located, to ensure that those equipment are properly secured.
