Nnewi North Local Government Area has inaugurated a health insurance scheme for the indigent people of the area.
The event which was held at the Council Secretariat in Nnewi attracted the people of Nnewi, Stakeholders and officials of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA.
The Transition Committee Chairman of the Local Government, Engineer Chris Obiorah appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for sustaining the agency, and noted that the initiative was aimed at reducing the burden of out-of-pocket expenditure on health by the indigent Ndi Nnewi.
Engineer Obiorah revealed that the health insurance scheme was sponsored by some affluent citizens of Nnewi including, Chiefs Innocent Chukwuma, Cletus Ibeto, Chika Okafor, Louis Onwugbenu, Innocent Okoli, Ifeanyi Ekwulugo and Peter Nwosu, praying God to bless them for their benevolence.
Giving health education to the people the Managing Director of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi who explained that health insurance is the only vehicle to achieve universal health coverage, maintained that Governor Soludo has remained resolute in prioritizing social services in the state, especially in the health sector.
Dr. Onyemaechi equally revealed all the benefits of the scheme and pointed out that since 2018, ASHIA yearly premium has remained twelve thousand naira, despite the inflation in the country, urging other towns to emulate what the people of Nnewi have done for a healthier society.
Earlier in a courtesy visit to Chief Chukwuma of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing by Engineer Obiorah and ASHIA team led by Dr. Onyemaechi, the business executive expressed joy that government initiated the idea of the scheme, and promised that apart from the five hundred people he has paid for in Nnewi, he will ensure that all the people working in his factory are also enrolled in the scheme.
Others who spoke at the event including the President-General of Nnewi, Dr. Mmaduka Atuenyi and the All-Progressives Grand Alliance candidate in this Saturdays Local Government election, Mr. Echezona Anazodo all pledged to support the scheme and urged the people of Nnewi to vote en-masse for APGA during the election in solidarity with Governor Soludo’s administration.
