The Chief Priest of Okpokolo Mbalachukwu Di Nso, Olileanya Di Na Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Anekwe has celebrated the 2024 new yam festival with a call on Ndi Igbo to embrace their rich culture and tradition.

The event which attracted people from all walks of life, was a medium through which the celebrant, Chief Anekwe showcased the rich culture and tradition of Ndigbo to the world, as the event featured dancing of Ufie rhythm by the celebrant and his guests, cutting of the roasted yam, several masquerade displays including Ijele, Agaba, Adamma, among others.


In a remark, Chief Anekwe explained that the new yam festival is a medium through which he appreciates God for His blessings and protection every year, pointing out that new yam festival is one of the traditions of Ndi Igbo that have come to stay, and thanked the people that came to identify with him during the event.

Chief Anekwe used the opportunity to call on Governors and other leaders in Igbo land to devise means of promoting Igbo culture and tradition, as according to him, Ndigbo are blessed with unique and rich culture that distinguishes the tribe from its counterparts across the globe.


In their separate interviews, a stakeholder in Mgbakwu, Chief Onochie Nzekwe, his Isuaniocha counterpart, Chief Onyeka Nwoye, Chief Chibuzor Uwadiegwu and Mrs. Uchechukwu Nwafor commended Chief Anekwe for his various contributions in the progress and development of Mgbakwu community, and for being one of the major projectors of the Igbo culture and tradition, encouraging Ndi Igbo to always identify with their culture and tradition as it is their identity.
