As Nigeria continues to diversify its media landscape to tackle the impact of fake news and misinformation, on the citizenry, individuals and organizations have been working to ensure that journalists are in the forefront of delivering factual impactful stories.

It is against this backdrop, that the U.S. Embassy in Abuja in conjunction with Dhul Jalaalu Charitable organization in a bid to enhance media coverage and storytelling in Nigeria’s indigenous languages, organized a special training session for journalists from language radio stations.
The two-day capacity building training held in Abuja brought together media professionals from various radio stations, equipping them with the skills needed to strengthen local narratives and foster deeper community engagement.

The U.S. Embassy emphasized the importance of radio as a vital medium in Nigeria, especially in rural areas where indigenous languages dominate communication and charged participants to cascade their knowledge to their colleagues.

Beyond traditional reporting, the training introduced innovative tools, AI and strategies for storytelling, encouraging the journalists to adopt multimedia approaches and interactive content to engage their audience.
