Governor Chukwuma Soludo yesterday cast his vote at the ongoing local government election at Ofuiyi poling unit, zero-zero-two, Isuofia ward in Aguata local government area.

The governor arrived his polling unit in company of his aides and security personnel.

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, Governor Soludo expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election and commended the electoral officials for their readiness and professionalism.


Some Isuofia indigenes such as the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Izuchukwu Okafor and the Managing Director Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Mr. Chike Anyaonu described the election as important because it will determine the future of the local government.

Meanwhile, at Umuenechi ward five, units zero-zero-one and zero-zero-two, in Awka voters were seen in their numbers as they queued to be accredited and cast their vote.

An elderly woman Mrs. Pauline Nwofor said she was given a seat when she came and waited for voting to begin, expressing happiness that she later cast her vote.

At Ezinwafor Umubele Awka ward five, units zero-zero-one, zero-zero-three, zero-two-seven and zero-three-six, a stake holder, Mr. Jude Agumadu, said they had mapped out the day for election that was why they waited patiently for the ANSIEC officials to get ready so that they can cast their vote, saying that he is fulfilled that he has cast his vote.

The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Chukwuma Okoye who cast his vote at Amawbia said the process is free, fair, credible and successful.

Similarly at various polling stations in Onitsha which include Okosi road, Ogbeabo village square, Obikporo village square, voters were seen exercising their franchise.

Several roads such as Saint Stephen’s Road, Okosi and Ugwunobanmkpa roads were deserted in compliance with movement restriction directive of the state government.

At Ndiokpalaeze in Orumba North Local Government Area the Accountant- General of Anambra State Dr. Chukwudi Okoli who spoke in an interview with Abuchi Nwozor said that at Eziogwe polling unit zero-zero-three where he cast his vote there was massive turnout of voters in the area like other places in the community describing the election as peaceful and orderly.
