Naval Outpost Onitsha has conducted a Medical Rhapsody for Odekpe community in Ogbaru Council Area and its environs.
The event was held at Odekpe Primary Health Care Centre.
The Medical Rhapsody included distribution of well equipped post natal bags for over 50 women, provision of variety of drugs, blood pressure and sugar equipments test, eyesight evaluation and provision of medicated glasses, mosquito nets, sanitary pads and other health care equipments to the expectant mothers.
According to the Commanding Officer of the outpost, Navy Captain Musa Jarma, the Medical Rapsody is part of the activities lined up as part of the non kinetic operation of Operation Delta Sanity Three, which also demonstrates the commitment of the Nigerian Navy to promote the civil-military relation between the service and the host community.
He said the event was also organised to provide free health care services, items and support to the indigenes especially the pregnant women and rekindle the confidence in the community to see that peace and security come back to the community.
In their remarks, the traditional ruler of Odekpe, Igwe Chukwuma Onyia represented by Prince Isamade Onyebuchi and the Councillor- elect for Iyiowa, Odekpe and Ohita, Mr. Nnamdi Xmai said they are impressed by the gesture of the Navy, assisting the community health wise and ensuring adequate security.
The Officer in-charge of the Primary Health Care, Mrs Ifeoma Muolokwu, and an expectant mother, Mrs Uzoma Chinwendu, thanked the Nigerian Navy for the intervention in the council areas, praying God to replenish them abundantly.
Official handover of the medical equipment to the Primary Health Care and the expectant mothers climaxed the event.
