Anambra state is gearing up to protect over 1.1 million children through the 2024 integrated measles campaign with the goal of reducing the burden of the disease among young populations.

The State Health Educator at the Anambra state Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mrs Uju Onwuegbuzina revealed during a zonal meeting organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF and the National Orientation Agency in Enugu.

According to Mrs Onwuegbuzina, 1,227,113 doses of the vaccine have been secured to vaccinate children in the 330 wards of the 21 council areas.

The measles campaign, she said, has been scheduled to run from October 12th to 18th 2024, and will be conducted in all designated health facilities and mobile posts in communities, churches, schools markets and anywhere children can be found.

Earlier, Dr. Hillary Ozoh, a social behavioral change specialist at UNICEF Field Office, Enugu, emphasized that media engagement is crucial to achieving the national goal of 95% coverage during the vaccination campaign.

He encouraged journalists to report on the campaign from any informative stndpoint using databased stories to educate and enlighten the public on the importance of measles vaccination.

With preparations underway, Anambra state is committed to safeguarding the health of children.
In an interview, the Director of Programmes, Anambra Broadcasting service Awka, Mrs Nneka Ekwunife expressed satisfaction with UNICEF and NOA for partnering with the media to create necessary awareness and to ensure that no child is left behind.
