Yesterday was International Day of the Girl Child.
It is a day declared by the United Nations General Assembly to support more opportunities for girls and increase awareness on gender inequality faced by girls.

In view of the observance, Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, tasked parents and guardians on proper upbringing of the girl child.

She regretted that parents are failing, especially in the upbringing of their female wards and encouraged them to adapt a closer approach that will enable a better parent daughter relationship.

Speaking on the theme of 2024 International Girl Child celebration which is “Girls Vision for The Future” , Mrs Obinabo called for all hands to be on deck to protect the girl child following reports of rape and other abuses prevalent in the society.
