Hitherto, Anambra was awash with bad roads, especially the ones leading to the hinterland. Some years back, bad roads turned Anambra into a jungle of wasted economic opportunities. Hence, many economic actors could not maximize their time and duly harness possibilities for business development in the state because of ineffective transportation systems. Farmers could not transport their produce to urban areas, resulting in wide gap between the urban and rural dwellers.

Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has wiped out the tears of Ndi Anambra concerning bad roads. Having constructed over five hundred kilometers of roads so far and has restated his commitment to construct, reconstruct and rehabilitate an average of ten kilometers of roads in the state every month.

Some of the roads constructed by the Soludo administration are: the Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Awba-Ofemili-Umuerum-Omor road; Amansea-Ndiukwuenu-Mamu Forest-Awa-Ufuma road; Ochanja road; Iweka road; Portharcourt Street road and Niger Street road; the nine Okpoko roads as well as Mmiata Anam-Nzam road, a virgin road leading to the Igala speaking part of Anambra state.

Some roads reconstructed in Awka by the present state government are Club road (formerly Abakaliki Street); Regina Caeli Road to Y-Junction; Millennium Industry-INEC-Ekwueme Square with a spur to the Anambra State House of Assembly road; UNIZIK junction-Okpuno-Isuanaocha road; PPSSC – State Library – NECO road and Ngozika Estate road. Others are revalidation of the construction of community roads at Mbaukwu from Saint Lawrence’s Anglican Church-Ngene Mmiri Shrine-Iyi Utuko stream-Ogado village road; construction of Umuogbu Awka flood control project and four kilometer road network; erosion control project behind the New Government House and Ekwueme square in Awka as well as construction of about 20 internal roads in Awka and Amawbia.

Other roads by the Solution Governor include construction of Oye Agu Abagana-Uruegbu Nimo road with a spur to Nimo road.

Furthermore, Governor Soludo is rehabilitating Afor Nnobi-Awka Etiti-Ichida-Toni Mass filling Station road, after Nkwo Igboukwu; constructing Nnokwa-AdaziEnu-Akwaeze road; revalidating Ukpor-Umunoko-Nza Ozubulu road; constructing Igwe Ezechi Okoye Road at Ifitedunu. He is eqally rehabilitating the flood section of the Isuofia-Igboukwu road; Igboukwu-Ikenga-Ekwulobia road with a spur to Isuofia-Nanka road, Achina-Onne-Ogboji roads; Isuofia township roads as an extension of the Igboukwu-Ikenga-Ekwulobia-Ikenga-Ekwulobia road project with a spur to Isuofia-Nanka road.

Professor Soludo is currently embarking on decongestion of Ekwolobia traffic through construction of magnificent flyover bridge, roads, bus terminal, fuel station, security and fire stations as well as external works, in addition to interventions on federal roads. Currently, work is ongoing on the dualization on the Amawbia-Nibo-Nise-Agulu-Nanka-Ekwulobia road. He is also carrying out gully erosion control works at Ebenator, while constructing Ajalli-Akpu-Nawfija-Ufuma-Ogbunka road; Ezira-Umuomaku-Enugwu Umuonyia-Achina roads and many others.

The constructed roads have put an end to the large post-harvest losses experienced in the areas where farmlands had no motorable access roads in Anambra

For sure, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo knows the way he is going. All that Ndi anambra could do is to assist him get there for the good and development of the state.
