Local government Mayors and Councilors in Anambra state have been urged to follow the developmental initiatives and strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo by ensuring that the dividends of democracy are provided nearer to the people.
Speaking in Awka, a lecturer in the Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Dr. Livinus Nwokike said that this will accelerate development in various communities and entrench sustainable democratic culture.
He noted that restoring democratic governance at the grassroots is one of the greatest achievements of Governor Soludo and posited that by conducting local government elections, the Governor has fulfilled the provision of the 1999 constitution as amended which guaranteed the existence of Local governments in Nigeria and which was the dream of the founding fathers of the Association of Local governments of Nigeria.
Dr. Nwokike who is a former Councilor in Orumba South Local government Council, said this would further strengthen tripartite relationship between the state, Local governments and communities in Nigeria , which would attract more dividends of democracy at the grassroot and accelerate overall development of communities, noting that with this relationship, bridges, culverts and drainage systems, electricity , water and other social amenities will be provided at the grassroot where many people are located .
He noted that the Governor has by conducting the election, distinguished himself as one of the governors that has planted democracy at the grassroot and has created a niche for himself in the anal of democracy in Anambra State and Nigeria.
