Determined to ensure food security in the South East geopolitical zone, the Federal ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology in collaboration with the Director General, South East Governor’s Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife has organised a two-day training on Technology Skill Transfer of Aqau Bio Resources for Small and Medium Enterprises.

The training aims to equip participants with entrepreneurial skills in fish farming and other aquatic ventures, to enhance food production in the region.

Declaring the event open, the Zonal Director of the South East National Board for Technology Incubation, Dr Clarice Chijioke, highlighted the critical role entrepreneurship plays in driving the economy, encouraging participants to seize the business opportunities presented by the training.


The Chief Laboratory Technologist at the National Board for Technology Incubation Center, Nnewi, and Food Scientist, Mr. Ahmed Ahmed said that the training will position participants as food suppliers and employers of labor, urging them to make judicious use of the skills acquired even as he said that the Ministry will provide startup funds and certification to help participants launch their businesses.

A Professor at the Department of Food Science and Technology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Mrs. Helen Agu, spoke on the technological development of fish production and the fish value chain and stressed that the training would enable participants to embark on aquatic business ventures using locally available materials.


Some participants, including Chukwuemeka Okeke and Rita Ewulu, said that the training has exposed them to more sources of generating income and fend for their families, thanking the organisers for the opportunity.

The event featured practicals on production of fish feed, production of smoked fish as well as presentation of certificates to the participants.
