Anambra State Multi-Stakeholders Action Committee on Gender Based Violence Prevention, MAP-GBV, has rejected in its entirety, the recently published 2023 Invictus Womanity Index Report labelling the state as worse than other couple of States in terms of gender based violence, GBV, prevalence rate.
MAP-GBV, domiciled in the state ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and powered by ActionAid, is saddled with the responsibility of using individual and cooperate knowledge, experience and skills to advocate, mobilise, inspire and motivate change in circle of influences and the public for sustained GBV Prevention among others.
The Chairman of the committee and traditional ruler of Orumbanasa, in Anambra West Local Government Area, Igwe Pius Omachonu, made public the rejection when he led members of his executive on an advocacy visit to Radio Sapientia, Onitsha.
Igwe Omachonu, who questioned the study, asked for its methodology including who were interviewed to arrive at such result.
While seeking for partnership with Radio Sapientia in information dissemination, Igwe Omachonu, assured that the committee will by next year, build environment based data to know the nature, root causes and spread of GBV to be able to achieve their mandate.
Welcoming his guests, the Managing Director of Radio Sapientia, Onitsha, Reverend Father Aloy Orakwe, while describing the visit as apt, encouraged people irrespective of sex to always speak out whenever they are faced with such challenge.
Reverend Orakwe implored Ndi Anambra to contribute to sanitising the society by joining hands with MAP-GBV to prevent the ugly trend and promised their partnership.
