The Federal Government has been called upon to standardize process of application for the post of university Vice Chancellors to put an end to crisis generated by the post of Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The Chairman Medical and Dental Associations of Nigeria, MDCAN, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Dr Amaechi Nwachukwu, made the call, while briefing the press in Awka.

Dr Nwachukwu alleged that UNIZIK was discriminatory in its advert for the post of Vice Chancellor, wondering why medical doctors and consultants who went through a very serious academic progression more than professors should not be allowed to be Vice Chancellors, more so when they are the people training all the doctors in Nigeria.
Dr Nwachukwu called on federal government to also ensure that all employed doctors are paid consolidated medical salary structure as was the practice.
He averted that years of service should be harmonised to allow consultants to retire at seventy instead of sixty years, as according to him, many of Nigerian doctors are traveling abroad for greener pastures, a situation which he said has depleted number of doctors available in the country today, expressing full support to their national body in their ongoing seven days warning strike.
