A bill for a law for further amendment on the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Law, 2007, has been passed into law by the State House of Assembly.
Its passage followed a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader Dr. Jude Akpua during plenary in Awka.
The amended law establishes the State’s Traditional Rulers Council, constituted through government recognition and selection by the Governor, ensuring equal representation from the three senatorial districts.
It also reveals that the Governor shall appoint a Chairman from among the council members on a rotational basis, serving a three-year term, with a possible one-year extension among others.
Supporting the bill, the member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Sir Ejike Okechukwu said it centres on re-establishing, widening and broadening Anambra State Traditional rulers’ council.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze read the bill for the second and third times before its passage which will come into force from December twentieth, 2024, after been assented to by the Governor.
