Special services and mass were held yesterday to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ known as Christmas.
Correspondent, Chinelo Onwuzulike reports that in all the churches visited, Christians were seen in joyous mood and in colours of the season, even as Priests and church clothing appear in white showing that Christ is born.
In his sermon tagged “Christmas of divine intervention” at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith Awka, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, who noted that God sent Jesus Christ to redeem mankind, called on those in authority to address the issue of security and give attention to the plights of the masses.
At Saint Francis Of Assisi Catholic Church Amikwo Awka, the Assistant Parish Vicar, Reverend Father Anthony Igboamalu, who spoke on “Jesus Christ is the word of God to humanity”, noted that Christ made himself available, accessible, real and humble, calling on the parishioners to emulate the virtues and show love to people around them.
For the Minister in Charge of Presbyterian Church of God, Grace Land Parish Awka, Right Reverend Nwabueze Nwanchor, the birth of Jesus Christ brought salvation to mankind.
On his part, the Vicar, Saint Stephens Parish Awka, Reverend Samuel Okeke, called on Christians to live a life of repentance, assuring that God will intervene in all challenging situations.
