About two hundred elderly citizens from eighty years and above in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, have benefitted from special medical outreach organized by the Awkuzu Traditional Council as parts of activities to mark “Ugo Okenye 2024” ceremony for the elderly.

Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that some of the beneficiaries of the programme held at Comprehensive Medical Center, Awkuzu, including an indigenous medical practitioner, Mr. Emmanuel Akabike, Chief Vincent Mofunanya, and one hundred and seventeen-year-old and eldest woman in Awkuzu, Mrs. Okpamma Ndu, described the day as remarkable in the lives of the elderly in Awkuzu.

Team Leader and Special Adviser to Igwe Professor Charles Anikweze on Health Matters in Awkuzu, Professor Augustine Odili, described the elderly as vulnerable because people hardly care about them.

The Director General, National Senior Citizens Center, Abuja, Dr Emem Omokaro, represented by the Head, Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications of the center, Mr. Omini Oden, said what Awkuzu community is doing is in line with the transformative programmes of the center.
