Enugwu-Ukwu cultural heritage was on display during the Ozomkpu title taking ceremony of Chief Theo Omalu in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Council Area.
The arena of the event blossomed when the Ozomkpu title holders filed in with their paraphernalia at the tune of the revered ‘Igba Eze’ followed by the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh.
During the rites of breaking of kola nut, Igwe Ekpeh praised Chief Omalu for joining the apex title of Enugwu-Ukwu and for being an illustrious son of the town who is well known for his philanthropic gestures and investments, the latest being the soon to be birthed Umunri MicroFinance Bank.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon his life as his title name “Gwam n’iru” is a testament to his sustenance of his father’s legacies.
Providing an explanation into the title, one of the members of the Ozomkpu society, Chief Jude Ekwunife revealed that Ozomkpu is the apex title in the community after ‘Nze’, ‘Ogbe Ozo’, ‘Oba’, ‘Ekwu’, and other titles, emphasizing that one must be a person of integrity, great achievements, a giver and peace-maker in the community to be accepted into the revered society.
Chief Ekwunife, therefore, noted that Chief Omalu has been found worthy of all the requirements for the title.
Another member of the group, Chief Uche Nworah explained that the title confers the responsibility of being a peacemaker and promoter of justice at all times on members while Dr. Joseph Okechukwu and a relative, Chief Damian Omalu noted that the initiation of Chief Omalu into the Ozomkpu society is long overdue, having been a member of the royal cabinet of Enugwu-Ukwu and one who has contributed immensely to the growth of the community.
The official initiation includes praying for Chief Omalu with the ‘Nzu’ and handing him over his paraphernalia: ‘Ngu Ozomkpu’, ‘Akupe’, red cap with two feathers, anklets, and also a certificate.
