People of Ozzu village of Ndiukwuenu, in Orumba North Local Government Area have staged a peaceful protest seeking immediate intervention of the state government in the seizure and mortgaging of the “Mamu River Forest Reserve”, as well as wanton destruction of their farmlands and other valuables by suspected land speculators.

Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the protesters were seen with placards with various inscriptions like “Mr Governor please come to our aid”, “Our lands are being stolen by land speculators”, “among others.

Their President-General Mr Ezechukwu Okoli, said the community has spoken to the Commissioner for Lands, but are not satisfied with his response while the village Chairman, Mr Sunday Onwubuemeli and others alleged that the suspects have on several occasions arrested both young and aged members of the village.

Responding on behalf of the State government, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiegbolu, commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and assured them of the Governor’s intervention.
