The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, Honourable Justice Azuka.
In a press statement, the Speaker described the incident as an act of unimaginable cruelty that has left the entire Assembly and the people of Anambra in mourning.
Honorable Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, and despite hopes and prayers for his safe return, news of his death has now devastated the legislative community.
The Speaker described the late lawmaker as a dedicated representative who served his constituents with passion, commitment, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
“He was known for championing policies and motions that improved the lives of his people and contributed meaningfully to debates in the House”.
“Beyond his legislative work, Honourable Azuka was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a man of integrity. His humility and diligence in legislative governance earned him the respect of his colleagues. His untimely demise, has cast a shadow of grief over the House, as he was not just a colleague but a brother to many”. Said Speaker.
The Speaker commended security agencies for their efforts in apprehending the perpetrators and urged them to ensure that justice is served.
He emphasized that the tragic event highlights the urgent need for collective action to address security challenges in Anambra State.
Right Honourable Udeze, assured that the lawmaker’s legacy would live on through his contributions to the Assembly and the lives he touched.
