One thing you can never take away from Governor Chukwuma Soludo, is his understanding of the times and the role he must play in them. He understands that as a man, he is meant for a purpose and he will not sleep until he had fulfilled that purpose. This guiding principle laid the paths for him during his days as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2004 to 2009. That understanding guarded the timeless banking consolidation and other reforms which he led. Acts that transformed the financial market of the country and helped the country withstand the 2008 global economic meltdown.
For the past three years, Governor Soludo, has transformed Anambra’s fortunes into glory by constructing over six hundred kilometres of roads with bridges and flyovers in thirty-six months while giving total free education to our children in Basic and senior secondary schools.
Anambra state in the past three years has been offsetting over twenty-one billion naira owed as gratuities to retired state and local government civil servants between 2014 and 2022 and is still paying minimum wage, building a monumental Government house and Governor’s Lodge, Solution Fun City, Awka City Park and giving free antenatal and delivery services to women in all primary and secondary healthcare institutions in the state.
The state in the last three years, even after receiving a go-ahead from the Anambra State House of Assembly, has not borrowed a dime but has employed over eight thousand one hundred and fifteen teachers, empowered and is training over fourteen thousand Ndi Anambra under its “One youth, two skills solution initiatives, and over twenty-five thousand others under its Level Up Anambra and Code Anambra Programmes. In Okpoko, a dense populated community hitherto forgotten by their people has seen a great light. A community that has never seen a tarred road has now seen ten different roads measuring nearly twenty kilometers, a standard and well equipped general hospital and regular water supply.
Should we talk about Fegge or the whole of Onitsha where a specialist hospital and many tarred roads have sprung up? Should we talk about Nnewi, a industrial hub that was left to community members in the past to develop themselves while making revenue returns to the government, but has today seen unparalleled state government presence.
What better way to describe the time of the man who under three years, has shown Ndi Anambra that their money is well enough to work for them? Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has in three years, spotted a legacy that cannot be taken away from him. One could only wonder and imagine the wonders he could wrought in the next five years if Ndi Anambra, unanimously, asks him to return in the November 8 gubernatorial election? Time and our children will tell that tale.
