People from all walks of life gathered at the Obi Ekweonu family, Offianta village Nsugbe to witness the wine carrying and traditional marriage ceremony of Miss Ogochukwu Ekweonu,
the daughter of a former Managing Director of the ABS, Mr. Ben Ekweonu.
The ABS family led by the Director, Commercial Service Department, Mrs Beatrice Akwanamnye gathered to rejoice with their at the colourful ceremony.
Speaking, the father of the groom, Chief Michael Nweke-Azu, explained that traditional marriage cannot be neglected in Igbo land, pointing out that what people call traditional marriage today in Igbo land is actually the celebration by friends and well wishers of the bride and groom after traditional marriage rights have been performed in the presence of the kinsmen.
Contributing the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ekweonu said it is a thing of joy in the lives of parents to give out their daughter in marriage as it marks continuity of their linage.
They stated that the success of every marriage requires honour and respect between the couple , adding that women should love their husbands and imbibe the spirit of endurance, to be comfortable in their matrimonial home and appreciated all that rallied round them to make the event a success.
While expressing their joy, the new couple who said they lack words to thank God for what He has done for them, called on youths to seek God’s face while looking for spouse, as all that glitter are not gold.
Presentation of drinks by the bride, blessing of the couple by the bride’s father and dances formed the high points of the occasion.
