An Anambra-born former international footballer and ex-Rangers, Mr Arthur Egbunam, has identified the occupation of top positions in the sports sector by novices as the major problem facing the industry in Nigeria.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that while speaking to the ABS at Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Council Area on the current challenges facing the sports sector, Mr Egbunam lamented that individuals with little or no knowledge of the nitty-gritty of the sector are often entrusted with its management, while experts are sidelined, noting that correcting this trend at both the state and federal levels would help restore the lost glory of the sports sector in Nigeria.

He also called for greater support for both retired and active sports stars in Nigeria, stressing that such encouragement would boost the morale of young, talented athletes and inspire them to excel, thereby making the country proud both locally and internationally.
