A committee for the maintenance of healthy and clean environment in both rural and urban cities of the State will soon be put in place.

The Commissioner for Environment, Beautification and Ecology, Mr Mike Okonkwo announced this during the inauguration of Senator Victor Umeh support group at Abatete, in Idemili North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner who was at the event to felicitate with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Mr Stanley Nkwoka who organized the ceremony said he and his team are working religiously to ensure that the environment is clean, healthy and protected in line with the mandate of Governor Willie Obiano.

The Commissioner said that at present, the Ministry is clearing bushes along the Enugu -Onitsha old road and the expressway, calling on Ndi Anambra to always desilt drainages around them to guard against flood and erosion.

He charged the newly inaugurated Members of Senator Victor Umeh Support Group to work as a family and ensure that the Senator is returned to the National Assembly in the 2019 General Election.

Addressing the gathering, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment Mr Nkwoka, said he is interested in Senator Umeh because he likes identifying with success stories.

On his part, the Director-General Senator Victor Umeh campaign Organization, Prince Emeka Udodeme said Senator Umeh has not spent up to one year at the National Assembly but has touched many lives and will continue to represent Anambra Central senatorial District effectively.

He announced that Senator Umeh has mapped out plans to sponsor ten persons from each of the seven Local Government areas that make up the Senatorial District from primary to university level and will also give one hundred women in each of the communities one hundred thousand naira each to start up or maintain their businesses.

Inaugurating the Abatete Ward of Senator Victor Umeh Support Group, the Chairman of the group in Idemili North Local Government Area, Mr Eloka Elosi charged them to be good foot soldiers now that the 2019 election is around the corner.

The twenty two Member Co-ordinators of Senator Victor Umeh Support Group Abatete Ward who were inaugurated later, took oath of allegiance.
