The need for expectant Mothers to attend ante-natal care regularly has been stressed.

Guests on ABS Television programme, “Good Morning Anambra” stated this on the latest edition of the programme in Awka.

One of the guests, Dr. Ruth Amasiani, who is a Health Care Provider, identified early child birth, improper spacing of children, lack of family planning and good health facilities, as some of the challenges women face during pregnancy.

She said that according to the World Health Organization and UNICEF, about one hundred and forty-five women die daily during child birth, two hundred and thirty children die within twenty-four hours after birth, while about two thousand of them die within one week after birth, while about two point six million children die within one month of birth.

She noted however that there has been a reduction in the rate of child death as a result of improved health care facilities in the country , adding that pregnant women should be sensitized on the importance of antenatal care and immunizing their children against child killer diseases.

Dr. Amasiani, further advised women to always visit the hospital immediately they noticed that they are pregnant and be cautious of what they eat and do, the kind of drugs they take during pregnancy, and the kind of food they give their babies to prevent malnutrition, child deformity, child or maternal deaths.
