Governor Willie Obiano has called on the church not to relent in its prayer for those in leadership positions.
He made the call at Saint Andrews Diocesan Church Centre Nnewi during a special thanksgiving service by the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese Most Reverend Godwin Okpala on his elevation as an Archbishop and for clocking sixty-nine years.
Governor Obiano who was represented by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa described prayer as a major index for recording successes.
He used the opportunity to reiterate the determination of his administration to continue its partnership with the Church for enhanced development of the State.
Governor Obiano who stressed the need for Nigerians to take full ownership of the nations electoral processes called on the church not to relent in its prayer for the smooth conduct of 2019 general elections.
The Governor while congratulating Most Reverend Okpala on his elevation and for clocking sixty nine years wished him more fruitful years ahead.
Earlier in a sermon, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor maintained that showing appreciation and gratitude is a Christian virtue.
Bishop Ezeofor who advised Christians to rediscover their talents and channel it to the service of God and humanity, maintained that showing appreciation to God attracts more of His blessings.
In a remark, the celebrant Most Reverend Okpala said his attainment to the age of sixty-nine and his elevation as an Archbishop are evidence of God’s grace and timeless kindness.
In their various remarks the Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese Right Reverend Prosper Amah, Mr Humphrey Ngonadi as well as Sir Izuchukwu Nwabueze described Most Reverend Okpala as a pace setter and called on young priests to emulate his life style.
The event was attended by over ten Bishops, traditional ruler of Nnewi Igwe Kenenth Orizu the third, the President-General Joint Council of Knights Church of Nigeria Sir Isaiah Eze-Ezika and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr Uche Nworah who was represented by Mr Abuchi Nwozor.
The ceremony featured anthem by the Choir and cutting of the birthday cake.
