People from the riverine communities of the state have been lamenting and counting their loses following the unquantifiable devastation of their property especially farmlands by the rampaging flood.

One of such farms is the Governor Willie Obiano’s pet project initiated in 2017, as Community Farm Development Project (CFDP) situated along Umudara-Ogwuaniocha road Ihiala.
According to one of the members of the Co-operative societies running the project and Chairman All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA Ihiala,
Chief Cyril Obi, the fifty hectares farmland acquired with the help of the Commissioner for Agriculture Mechanization Processing and Export Mr. Afam Mbanefo was submerged.
According to him, the farmers lost crops like yam, cocoyam, pumpkin, scent leaf, bitter leaf, and yellow pepper among others .
Chief Obi and other members of the co-operative society appealed to the state government, donor agencies and organizations to assist them financially to cushion the effect of the havoc wrecked on their farmlands by the flood and to help them repay loans they collected from financial institutions.
He called on people from the riverine communities to relocate to the holding centres provided by state government urging farmers in the affected areas to imbibe the habit of planting early to avoid any incidents that could lead to premature harvest, and appealed to the federal government to find a permanent solution to the flood menace.
