The thirty million naira Nkwo Nando market, Anambra East Local
Government Area, singlehandedly built by Chief Sir John Iwuno for the
community, has been officially opened for commercial activities.

The commissioning of the modern market was one of the events that
heralded this year’s Iwa Ji festival of the Nando community officiated by the traditional Chieftain in the community, Chief Iwuno.

The new market which has about ten lines and named after some
individuals in the area including the Transition Committee Chairman
for Anambra East Council Area, Chief Pius Ifeadi among others, was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the market women in the area especially during the rainy seasons as it is built to the modern standard.

Commissioning the market, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor
on Parks and Markets, Mr. Cyril Obiano while speaking through the Executive Assistant on Parks and Markets, Engineer Austin Igwenagu,
commended Chief Iwuno on the community development project which he described as an act worthy of emulation, noting that it is in line
with the transformation agenda of the Willie Obiano government.

In his speech, the Benefactor, Chief Sir Iwuno, said that the project was to save people of the community for the sufferings they go through in the market under the former dilapidated structures especially during rainy period and to complement the good leadership of Governor Obiano who according to him, has distinguished himself in modern day governance.

In a remark, the Chairman on the occasion, Professor Kenneth Ofokansi,
thanked the benefactor for erecting such modern edifice which he observed, will impact directly and positively on the lives of Nando people, and described Iwa ji festival as one of the major ways of promoting Igbo culture.

For the sons of the benefactor, Messrs Chike Iwuno, and Collins Iwuno,
people should support the government in community development projects
for a better society as the government cannot achieve much alone.

In their various reactions the President General of Nando community,
Chief Ignatius Anago, Engineer Chuks Agbasionwe, and Mr. Ifeanyi
Oraeke, described Chief Iwuno as a philanthropist per excellence, saying that the world would be a better abode if the rich could borrow a leaf from him.

Some of the market women who spoke to the ABS including Mrs. Angela
Ubammadu and Mrs. Juliet Chigbata, narrated their ordeal under the former dilapidated market, and thanked Chief Iwuno for the intervention.

Songs of solidarity for Chief Iwuno by men and women groups as well as
masquerade display, added glamour to the event.
