The Trade Union Congress, TUC, Anambra State Council, has
disassociated itself from the purported publication in the Sun Newspaper of ninth October 2018 titled “Pension Scam Rocks Anambra”.
The State Council refuted this in a press release jointly signed by the Council’s Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu and Secretary,
Comrade Alex Ebi.
The release stated that organized labour in Anambra state, comprising
of TUC, NLC and JNC have not had any meeting to reach such conclusion
as portrayed by the NLC Chairman in the said publication.
It agreed that the council has been having meetings with the state
government, SSG, HOS, and SSA on National and State Assemblies to iron out issues affecting workers as well as address grey areas in the contributory Pension scheme which they are waiting on government to make statements to allay the fears of workers in some aspects of the pension.
The release recalled that Governor Willie Obiano made promise to workers to increase their salaries once the National Tripartite Committee on minimum wage finalized their assignment.
It noted that based on this, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria,
Anambra State Council does not in any way want to stampede the state
government knowing fully well that Governor Obiano as a man of honour,
will keep to his words.
The release emphasized that the council will not be a party to any
Union that intends to go on strike based on contributory pension
palaver and disassociates itself and members from such ill-timed venture.
