The heavy use of artificial fertilizer to grow crops and other edible items has been identified as one of the fastest means of spreading cancer in the rural and urban communities.
This was the submission of a medical expert, Professor Chinedu Agbodike while speaking to over two hundred women at a forum in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Council Area.
He also identified the consumption of synthetic food as another cause of cancer and advised the women to be close to nature by eating more natural foods, as they are the best approach to avoiding cancer.
While saying that cancer is caused by lack of vitamin B17, which can be found in oil bean locally known as “Ukpaka”, Professor Agbodike, said what is important is to know what to eat and what not to eat, stressing the need for people to go back to nature.
Professor Agbodike said that people living in the city were more prone to cancer than those living in rural areas because people in urban centres do not have access to enough oxygen like those in rural areas.
In her remark, another resource person, Dr Mrs Sally Chikezie, told the women that the cancer scourge was prevalent in both developed and developing countries of the world today to the extent that, out of every twenty women, six of them were cancer patients.
She also identified early diagnosis and faith as best approach to treatment of cancer.
Dr Mrs Chikezie as well told the women about the importance of personal hygiene and natural foods to always remain healthy.
