The State Deputy Governor, Doctor Nkem Okeke, has urged Rotary Club of Awka Metropolis, District Nine One Four Two Nigeria, to sustain humanitarian activities and contribute towards development of the State.

He gave the advice during the Installation ceremony of Mrs Joy Mbachi as the eighth president of the club held in Awka.

Rotary International provides an opportunity for men and women to enhance their knowledge and skills for self development, to address the physical and social needs of communities, as well as promote better relations among people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Okeke who highlighted the work of Rotary to include giving hope to the hopeless, granting free education to brilliant but poor people and providing polio vaccination free of charge, among other things, advised the club not to relent in putting smiles on the face of the less privilege and promoting peace in the world

Dr, Okeke disclosed that the state government plans to collaborate with the club to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.

An award of Peace was also given to the Deputy Governor’s Mother, Lady Dorathy Okeke for her outstanding performance in the club.

Speaking after the Inauguration, Mrs. Mbachi expressed optimistism and pledged to give out her best to ensure that peace is sustained for the Socio- economic development of the state and country at large.
