This perhaps is the reason, Anambra State Sports Development commission initiated monthly road walk for state residents to enhance healthy living.

This monthly exercise tagged “Walk for Life” today started from the open square opposite the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, through Nawfia, down Enugwu-Ukwu and terminated at Njikoka Local Government Headquarters Abagana.

The exercise, participated by some members of the state executive Council, as well as some security agencies in the state was led by the Secretary to the State Government Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Some Commissioners including Mr. C-Don Adinuba, Architect. Mike Okonkwo, Dr. Joe Akabuike, Engineer. Marcel Ifijiofor as well as some Managing Directors of Anambra Parastatals including the ABS Boss Nze Uche Nworah, Mr. Pat Obiefuna of OCHA Brigade and founder Otusuwakwaigbo Professor .Pete Ejiofor among others, took to the road, displaying their physical fitness and encouraging others to participate in subsequent monthly road walk.

Speaking to journalists, Professor Chukwulobelu said that the monthly exercise was part of the activities of the state government aimed at promoting mental and physical alertness of the state citizenry as well as addressing some health related issues.

He pointed out that obesity resulting from sedentary lifestyles of people was responsible for the frequent visits to hospitals over minor ailment and heart attacks.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike and his Information and Public Englightment counterpart Mr. C-Don Adinuba explained that it was targeted toward enhancing the physical well-being of the residents of the state to engender greater productivity and reduce challenges of illnesses like cancer, high blood pressure and heart attack among others.

While describing a healthy man as a wealthy man” State Chairman of Sports Development Commission Mr. Tony Oli said the commission would continue to encourage workers and residents to turn out in large number for the monthly exercise.

Meanwhile, the ABS Boss Nze Nworah and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sir Willie Nwokoye, who led a football team after the exercise, said it was a welcome development and thank the state government for approving the exercise which they noted provides opportunity to ease out worries of the day to day activities.

Other participants including the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon. Pascal Agbodike, Special Assistant to Governor on Sports, Mr. Emeka Egbuchi ,Sir Chuks Emelife, and Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi opined that the initiative will improve the thinking process, metal alertness and strength of the people both those in civil service and those in business.

The second edition of the Anambra walk for Life will hold in the first Saturday of December 2018 and all local government and communities are encouraged to participate in order to journey with great fitness into the 2019.
